The Phoetry Project

I have given myself an assignment.
I will take and post (at least) one photo a day.

I'm interested in where this will take me, how each day will be represented by a photo. How will a sad day, a good day, an all around awful day be shown in pictures?

Stay tuned. You will soon find it here : http://phoetryproject.blogspot.com

Grief

Crushed
broken
shattered
like tiny shards of glass on the floor
each shard is a memory
and with each memory
it hurts
like bare feet pierced
and bleeding
aching.

Silence-
so sad, so lonely
the sound of loss
the sound of pain
the sound of a heart unhealed
screaming into the
nothingness
that was left
behind
you are gone
you left nothing
but memories
photos
the faint recollection of your scent

time-
will heal, they say
but how does time
know
when the healing should begin
when grief has lasted long enough
only
time
will tell

tick
tock
a broken clock
tiny shards of glass

Here's to you Harriet Tubman

Today, March 10th, is Harriet Tubman day. On this day in 1913, a great humanitarian, abolitionist, union spy and brave beyond measure, left this earthly plane.
What she left behind is a legacy of strength and courage that we all would be lucky to have.

Harriet (born Araminta Ross) was a slave for nearly 30 years before escaping the brutality of being thought of as mere 'property', taken advantage of and beaten.

Harriet was instrumental in using the aide of antislavery activists and safe houses (Underground Railroad) to rescue over seventy slaves.

It is said that moments before Harriet passed she told those nearby: "I go to prepare a place for you."
I'm sure she is at peace in the place prepared for her.

Wade in the Water, wade in the water children.
Wade in the Water. God's gonna trouble the water.

Who are those children all dressed in Red?
God's gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones that Moses led.
God's gonna trouble the water.

Who are those children all dressed in White?
God's gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones of the Israelites.
God's gonna trouble the water.

Achoo

We were eating a restaurant called "Seven Dwarves". Myself, my husband and our 3 daughters aged 7,6 and 4.
It came time to order desert. M, the 7 year old, ordered green, mint chocolate chip ice cream.
While waiting for the desserts to arrive I said, "You think Sneezy made the ice cream and that's why it's green.?"
To which M replied, "Uh, could Happy make mine?"

The call of the coyotes

There's something you should know about me. I love animals. I am what some would consider, a bleeding heart. And I am perfectly okay with that.
I cannot recall a time when I have not worked for animal 'rights'. Understand this - in my 'quest' for animal issue awareness I have tried to educate people on the plight of animals and how the very basic right -to live, without unnecessary harm- is being thwarted by people who just don't care.

There is a lot to know about my animal welfare/rights background, but this isn't about me.

Recently, the town I live in has issued warnings about the 'influx' of coyotes. Townspeople have complained of seeing coyotes 'running through their yard'. Some coyotes, we are told, have appeared aggressive, a pack of them 'hanging out' in the daylight at public school playgrounds.
There are two cases of coyotes attacks - 1 a cat and one a small dog.

The answer then is to cull the coyotes. However, the news reports have used the word 'euthanize'. Let's be real here, ok.

There are many of the reasons why this is a ridiculous 'solution' to the 'problem'. And I have expressed those reasons in a letter to every city council member. 18 reasons, in fact.

But what I want to address is the 'euthanasia' of these coyotes.

First, it is my understanding that leg hold traps will be used. Which in and of itself is unbearably cruel. The town does not allow the shooting of firearms. So how exactly will these coyotes be 'euthanized'? I am fairly certain that it will not involve a needle. What it will involve will be heartless, cruel and painful.

There is no reason to be like this. I am appalled that good people would choose to do this. We are told that the hired trappers will only rid the town of diseased and aggressive coyotes, but how will the leg hold trap know the difference?

I am angry and deeply saddened. It makes me sick to think that my tax money is going to something so unnecessary cruel. There are better ways. The town that claims they want to 'go green' has bright red blood on their hands.

Do not get me wrong, I love this town. I love the people, the quaint homes, the gorgeous old trees. I love the nature and it's creatures.
Coyotes are doing what coyotes do. And, I'm afraid, humans are doing what humans do - creating a problem then reacting to that problem out of fear.

Howdy!

Well, hello there.
How are you? That's great, me too.

Is that a good opening to a new blog? Probably not. I'll try to do better. I'm a bit rusty.
